OK so here's the first blog post. I think I should begin with the start of my bad run. It all began in Feb a month and a half ago now. I decided to once again play more poker since the CNY holidays were about and figured that the games would be reasonably good. I got off to a bad start being stuck 16K, over the next few sessions I'd catch up and get close to unstuck.
The bad run truly began just as the Macau Poker Cup series started. I had just busted out the Baby Dragon event and sat in a 50/100 game as my girlfriend was still in the tournament (she cashed by the way, good job!). Had a fairly bad run of cards to get me stuck about 10K when this hand came about after I rebought for the max 20K stack.
I was in SB with JJ and a 20k stack, one limper PF and BTN raises to $500. I 3B to $1,850 and the Villain in BB covered me (I assumed at the time was a tournament player seemed decent) decided to 4B to $4,800. BTN folds and here my troubles began. I decided to flat the 4B and go to a flop.
Flop comes 974 rainbow ($9,600 in pot) I check and Villain bets $3,500. I flat.
Turn comes A ($16,600) I check and Villain checks quickly behind.
River comes A ($16,600) for a run out of 9 7 4 A A rainbow. I check and villain tanks for a little and shoves all-in for $11,700 roughly. At this point I am fairly certain I was beat, he could be value betting QQ-KK, slow played AK, I hardly ever think there is a bluff in his range. For some reason I decided to call after tanking for 2 minutes, I convinced myself that there was a bluff in there. He showed me KK.
I could not have played the hand any worse, pretty much played it terribly PF and on all subsequent streets. I won't go into the details of how bad I played as that is not really the point of this post. It was bad. I felt like I got completely owned and I guess that was where things started going downhill.
After that key hand I stopped playing in the game and left stuck about $30K+. The sessions that followed during that month were mainly 25/50 and I didn't play particularly bad but nothing seemed to go my way, it was like that hand was the start of the bad mojo that was to follow. I hardly remember any of the major hands in Feb now as it's been awhile and I have been playing alot of poker over the past two months. I did cash in the main event of the MPC so that helped a bit ($15k+ in profit). But I ended the month being stuck about $45k net loss riddled with suckouts and coolers. I don't believe I got it all-in behind even once and lost stacks of money every time I was all in.
The first session of March showed a net profit of 2K, which led me to believe I was back on track. How wrong I was. Winning sessions turned into losing sessions by suckouts, all my all-ins ran far below EV all month.
Some but not all of the sick hands include:
1.) 20K pot AQ vs KK all in preflop (lost when villain hit an A)
2.) 18k pot J10 vs 97 on KQ79 board all in turn (lost when villain rivered a 9)
3.) 12K pot K10 vs AKos on QJ9 flop I check raised a bet from villain donkey to 2k and he flatted turn came a 10 when I shoved and he snap called after 2 outting me.
4.) 57 vs Ah4h vs 88 on 5h5xQh Flop after a bunch of action on the flop A4h villain decided to cold flat a 3bet to draw. I decided not to shove, turn came another heart (88 player was all in on flop), I check and Ah4h villain bet 1400 into 8500+ pot. I called and missed the river obviously. It went check check.
These are just some of the hands I remember, admittedly there are some coolers I could have folded or some hands that I could have played better but the above loosely illustrates the theme of the month. As of this post I am stuck just under 50K in March.
Taking a few days to collect myself and vent on this blog... gg.
